Since Illinois is a deregulated energy market, customers can choose their own retail electricity supplier but are still connected to their utility provider. Every customer within ComEd service area receives their electricity supply through the utility regardless of which retail electric supplier they select. ComEd works with more than 50 electricity suppliers to deliver electricity to homes and businesses across Illinois, including Green Mountain Energy and Direct Energy
