About ComEd

ComEd (Commonwealth Edison) is a Northern Illinois electric utility that delivers electricity to 3.8 million customers across Northern Illinois - about 70 percent of the state’s population. They are a subsidiary of the publicly traded company Exelon (EXC). They are the sole electricity utility in the city of Chicago.

How ComEd Works with Suppliers

Since Illinois is a deregulated energy market, customers can choose their own retail electricity supplier but are still connected to their utility provider. Every customer within ComEd service area receives their electricity supply through the utility regardless of which retail electric supplier they select. ComEd works with more than 50 electricity suppliers to deliver electricity to homes and businesses across Illinois, including Green Mountain Energy and Direct Energy.

ComEd Services

As a Exelon company, ComEd offers a range of services to support various customer needs. Like many other utilities they offer online account management and storm preparation tips to severe weather alerts and outage maps. With a dedication to customer satisfaction and safety, The Illuminating Company also provides repairs, inspections, and installations that help power residential and commercial buildings.

Service Offerings

  • Online Tennant Management for Rental Properties
  • Construction site services
  • Move, pause, start new electric service
  • Self generated green energy connections
  • Online outage map and reporting
