Quick Summary

The Reliant Secure Advantage® 18 plan is an 18-month fixed-rate plan with a pricing structure that rewards higher electricity usage. If you consistently use 800 kWh or more per month, you'll avoid a $9.95 monthly fee and get competitive rates. But if you're a light electricity user, this plan will cost you more than simpler options.

Pricing Structure

Here's what you're really paying:

  • Base energy rate: 10.16¢ per kWh
  • TDU delivery charges: $4.23/month + 5.58¢ per kWh (standard Oncor fees*)
  • Usage charge: $9.95/month if you use less than 800 kWh, $0 if you use 800+ kWh

*Oncor fees are the same across all plans, the base energy rate is what you are actually comparing between plans and providers.

This creates a pretty significant pricing difference based on your usage. If we apply the the pricing structure to various usages we can see what the effective rate (what you will actually pay) is for common usage levels.

  • 500 kWh/month: 18.6¢ per kWh (ouch)
  • 1000 kWh/month: 16.2¢ per kWh (much better)
  • 2000 kWh/month: 15.9¢ per kWh (competitive)

The Fine Print

Early termination fee: $180 if you cancel before the 18 months are up. There are various ways to avoid this if you are moving, or have other circumstances. When in doubt call Reliant or our support team for help.

Price changes: Your rate can change if Oncor adjusts their delivery charges or if new government fees get passed through. This is standard language, but worth noting since it means "fixed rate" isn't 100% locked.

Renewable content: This plan is 24% renewable, which is below Texas's statewide average of 35%. Not a dealbreaker, but worth mentioning if that matters to you.
