Certification of Solar Collectors

January 30, 2002

Summary

To be eligible for Texas's sales tax exemptions for solar energy systems, solar energy collectors must be certified by either the Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC) or the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI). The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) is responsible for identifying and adopting standards for rating solar energy devices in Texas. The standards are used in performance labeling and certification of solar energy devices in Texas. The certification applies to any solar energy collector or solar energy system that provides for the collection of solar energy or the subsequent use of that energy as thermal, mechanical, or electrical energy.
