As of January 1, 2008 departments under the direction of the governor must host meetings and conferences in hotels and other facilities that have the DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) "Green Lodging" certification. This certification is for best practices in water, energy, and waste efficiency standards. The only exception to this rule is when there is no viable option.
One of the many requirements of this voluntary certification is a form of green power purchasing. In order to receive the certification a hotel or facility must purchase at least 5% green power or renewable energy certificates from a green power generation source in Florida. The other requirements can be found here. Specific questions can be found here.
