Plumas-Sierra REC - Geothermal and Photovoltaic Leasing Program

March 03, 2004

Summary

Plumas-Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative offers a leasing program for GeoExchange/ geothermal heat pumps. The present program began in 1998 and is a reworking of an earlier one. In the GeoExchange program, the cooperative leases heat pump loops to members for a thirty-year period at no interest. Participants are billed a fixed cost each month that depends on the size of the geothermal unit. This results in sixteen different price rates covered by the cooperative. Please visit the website GeoExchange Heat Pumps for more information on the pricing. Only cooperative members are eligible for the program and there are more than 400 participants to date. Plumas-Sierra promotes the program through its utility magazine, radio spots, newspaper advertisements, yard signs, and word-of-mouth. Plumas-Sierra also includes a rebate option when leasing geothermal heat pumps. In addition, there used to be a PV leasing program that is currently inactive. Plumas-Sierra continues to support customers already participating in the Photovoltaic (PV) Program. The details of the PV program are currently being reevaluated and the program might be offered again in the future.
