March 11, 2016

Summary

In early 2002, the City of Santa Monica began waiving building permit fees for solar energy systems. In December 2008, after months of working with industry trainers, solar contractors and staff from the Solar Santa Monica office, the city released their guidelines for basic information required for photovoltaic plan check submittal. The guidelines were subsequently amended in 2010. The guideline's purpose is to help standardize solar installation and inspection procedures while making sure all Code requirements are met.
