It's moving day! You've spent hours packing and planning. But...whoops you forgot to get your electricity service moved over. Your new home is quite the same without lights and electricity.

Don't panic. In most cases, this can get be resolved quickly.
For homeowners and renters same day electricity is possible but you may need to contact us or your provider to ensure you get power on ASAP.
For businesses, same-day electricity may be hard or impossible to get. You should contact our support team immediately.
If you have poor credit consider prepaid electricity or finding a provider that does not charge a large deposit.
If you are in a deregulated energy market like Texas, good news. Getting electricity service turned on for your home on the same day is no big deal.
In areas that are not deregulated you should contact your utility immediately.
Many electric providers are able to turn on your service in just a few minutes. If you have already signed up for an energy plan, double-check your start date.
If your start date is correct and you don't have electricity, call your energy provider.
It's likely that you either need to submit some sort of paperwork or your provider just hasn't flipped the switch yet. Either way, contacting them directly is the best course of action.

Apartments require electricity service to be in your name before they hand you the keys.
If you want to move in you will need to sign up with a provider and have proof to show your landlord.

Businesses have to jump through more hoops to get same-day electric service. If you need same-day power prepare to pay more or hand in a deposit depending on the circumstances.
If you are simply switching energy providers to an existing business it's usually not a big deal. The new provider can connect the service on the same day.
After you find and enroll online here contact our support team to make sure the provider expedites your order.
This is where it gets tricky. New businesses will likely take longer and will likely have to pay a deposit to expedite service. Some providers offer a higher starting rate (usually about ¢.5) for new businesses or businesses with poor credit.
It's also unlikely that you will get same-day electricity service. Most new businesses will need 2-5 days to have the power turned on.

Electricity companies perform credit checks as part of the enrollment process. that's why Texas electricity companies ask for your social security number. Don't worry though, it's generally a soft credit check that won't affect your credit score.
If you have less than stellar credit (credit scores around 600 or below) you may be subject to paying a deposit.
But, before you pay a big deposit try enrolling with a different provider. Every provider has different credit requirements.
You may not meet the requirements for one, but meet the requirements for another.
Additionally, many providers will allow you to sign up for a plan with a slightly higher rate per kWh instead of paying a deposit.

Instead of getting a bill at the end of the month, prepaid electricity plans are paid for in advance. Like a gift card, you have a balance with your electric company. As you use electricity, they deduct it from your balance.

Don't overpay - If you are speaking with a provider and they are trying to talk you into a plan that's way more expensive than other plans walk away.
Same-day service should not cost extra. Providers should not charge extra to connect your service on the same day. This can be different for business customers.
