Provider Rating Methodology

EnergyBot's goal is to give shoppers the most transparent electricity shopping experience possible. That means real data, honest comparisons, and no tricks that make one plan look cheaper than it actually is.

The electricity delivered to your home is the same regardless of which provider you choose. What differs is the experience: customer service, plan terms, pricing, renewable options, and overall satisfaction. Our ratings are designed to make those differences easy to compare.

We've helped hundreds of thousands of people find and enroll with an electricity provider. Along the way, we've collected feedback from our own customers and from third-party sources to build a picture of how each provider performs. That data is organized into four categories, which are then combined into a single overall score.

How the Rating Categories Work

Plans & Pricing

Rates providers based on how competitive their plans are. Providers with lower-cost options relative to the market receive higher scores. This is the most heavily weighted factor in the overall rating.

Customer Service

Combines third-party review scores (Google, BBB, Trustpilot, and others) with EnergyBot's own customer data, including support interactions, enrollment success rates, and post-enrollment surveys.

PUC Complaint Rating

Compares the number of formal complaints filed against a provider to the total number of customers they serve. A lower complaint rate relative to their size means a better score. This data is sourced directly from the Public Utility Commission. Where available, we use a provider's Texas PUC data; for providers without a Texas presence, we use complaint data from the relevant state commission.

Renewable Content

Rates providers based on whether they offer fully renewable plans, partially renewable plans, or no renewable options.

Overall EnergyBot Rating

The overall rating is a weighted combination of the four categories above. Plans & Pricing carries the most weight, followed by Customer Service, PUC Complaint Rating, and Renewable Content. The result is a single score that reflects both the value and experience you can expect from a provider.

Our Commitment to You

EnergyBot does not accept payment to influence provider ratings or recommendations. Sponsorships, commission structures, and business relationships with providers do not affect their ratings or rankings. Our recommendations are always based on what's best for you as a shopper.
